****Warning: Graphic poop story ahead*****
So, i should have known that there would be major payback for a 24 hour periord of poop free diapers. But, i was blissfully unaware of the mess that would await me.
Last night, as I was washing bottles, Jacob was hanging out in his high chair. I heard him toot, but didnt think much of it. I finished up with dishes, and started playing games with Jacob to get him to laugh. It's like crack for me, or what i imagine a crack addition is like.... I NEED to get him to laugh on a daily basis. Then i try to tape it, but usually that makes him stop laughing.
Anyways, after i finish acting like an idiot, I go to take him out of the high chair. And then I realized why Jacob may have been laughing, not because I'm funny, but because he just had a major poopsplosion. I can't stress the MAJOR part enough.
It's up the back, out the sides, all over his clothes, and on the high chair. Not just on the high chair, but in the cracks of the fabric for the straps. And it went in the seam of the first layer of the high chair to hit the second layer of the high chair. OH MY WORD. THERE WAS POOP EVERYWHERE....
To the bath we go. It takes a few minutes of debating how I am going to put him down to get the clothes off while trying to contain where the poop will go. I lay down his changing mat on the bathroom floor and strip him while wiping each layer off as i go. Baby Jacob is perfectly happy and kicking away while this is all going on.
So, i get him naked, and am trying to clean up the mess in the bathroom before i plop the poop machine in the tub. While i am doing all this, i wonder how i got water on the opposite side of the floor from the sink. I keep walking back and forth, cuz i am on a mission to clean this up. I look down at Jacob, who's playing on the floor grabbing his toes, when i realize his little baby bottom is wet....
Yep, that's not water on the floor I've been walking thru, it's pee. Seriously.
So, i wipe up the pee, wash my feet off, and put Jacob in the tub. Thank god the swiffer is in the bathroom so i sanitize the floor while Jacob splashes happily away. After i have a squeaky clean baby, and get him all changed and lotioned, i think my night will continue merrily along.
Then i walk into the kitchen and realize i still have a poopy high chair to clean.
It's lucky Jacob is so cute, because that mess last night was not cute...

5 months!!
It's hard to believe my little boy is already 5 months old!! He is working on sitting up, can do so without help for a small period of time, he usually topples when he's reaching for a toy. His favorite toys are a ball w/ rattle, a block that makes crunchy noises, and the snail. They all instantly go into his mouth.
We played at his friend Lydia's house this afternoon. He's known her since he was 4 wks old, met in the new mama group I joined. We still meet as a group about once a month, but had a playdate today with just Lydia and her mommy, Andrea. They smiled at each other and tried to eat each other's hands. :)
The jumper is still the big favorite though. He can really get bouncing in it!
We have loved the sunny days and took a walk on Sunday. He likes the summer hats much better than the winter ones!
We played peekaboo today, which makes him smile. So, here is the big boy playing peekabo!

Laughing at selby
Today, Selby was chasing her tail like a madwoman. She does this to show us how cute and entertaining she is. Anyway, she's growling, and carrying on about it, as she tries to trick her tail by faking to the left then going right. I never claimed my puppy to be super intelligent...
She would catch it, let go, and start again. It went on for about 5 minutes. I was holding Jacob, who's watching Selby. He loves to watch Selby.
He actually started to laugh at her! Of course, Selby stopped chasing at that point. But, at 4 months old, it amazes me tha he knows this is something that's funny and he should respond by laughing.

Geese
so the geese have returned to woodbury. which means that soon traffic will be stopped for the gooslings (is that right baby??) to cross the road. but thats not what this post is about.
there is one goose strutting around the parking lot, with its wings held halfway out. It makes me want to go outside and play Selby's favorite game with the goose. You hold your arms out, kinda hunch over, and start walking really slow towards her. She loves it, gets down on the ground and tries to "hide" and see how long she can wait before she tears off like a banshee. Or lately, like an overweight out of shape banshee.... but thats another topic. Anyways, i want to go do this with the goose.
Sadly, logic tells me that the goose will not play Selby's game, and more likely, Mr. Goose will probably attack me. Since i have been jumped by ducks before, as a little girl, i thought better of it. (i guess i was rocking out a denim jacket with gold buttons. The ducks wanted my buttons.)
For some reason that makes me think of Katie's wedding when i wanted to go down on the golf course to get the "glowing" balls. She would not let me do this. So instead, Katie's mom, aunt, cousin, and I raced across the golf course at night, and ran thru the sprinklers in our wedding garb. We found out after that the sprinklers water was from the standing ponds on the gc, so they REEKED. (As a side note, this was not the last wedding i ran thru sprinklers at as a bridesmaid)
After all this rambling, and thinking of some of the things i have done, and thought of doing this morning already, i wonder who thought it would be a good idea to give me a baby. Poor Jacob... I have a feeling Mike will be the one telling me that's not a good idea with some ideas i come up with for Jacob. He already told me having a baby who does the sprinkler and shopping cart dance is not necessary. I disagree. Jacob will know these dances by age 3. That is my goal. Come on, whats cuter than a baby dancing? A baby who does the stupid dances that make me laugh, thats what...

Serious Baby
Jacob is a serious baby. Since day one, he's been a watcher. You REALLY have to work at smiles. When he was born, he didn't really cry. The doctor put him on my chest and he just looked at us. When we try to get him to smile for the camera, he smiles, then instantly stops when we pull out the camera.
He scrunches up his eyebrows and just stares at you. no smile. no laugh. no talking.
The "outtakes" from sledding...
We call him our serious baby. It's funny how at such a young age their personality can already be seen. But when we do get a smile, it's worth every silly face you've made, every song about whatever mundane thing we are doing, every stupid dance. It's worth that 2 second smile he gives you (which is about all you get if you hold up a camera!)

Rubber Ducky, you're the one!
Jacob LOVES bath time. Last night, we found he also loves to be squirted by the rubber ducky!
He has his typical demeanor, smiles and laughs during the action, but if you stop, smile disappears instantly. Such a serious baby!
I was hoping to have a new recipe that we tried yesterday posted today, but it was just ok, neither of us really cared for it, but i did make "doctored" brownies that were fantastic!
"Doctored" Brownies
Mix box brownie mix
Throw in some butterscotch chips, m&ms, and a few spoonfuls of peanut butter. Add some hershey syrup.
bake according to box.
They remind me of monster cookies!
Another plus, Jacob has been sleeping better lately. Last night, he woke up 3 times. once to join us in bed, around 11:30, then woke up at his normal eating times at 1:30 and 4. And he slept until 6:10, which is amazing!! Usually he's been waking up b/w 5 and 5:30....

Dedication & Beef
We had Jacob's dedication this past weekend at EBC in Woodbury (it is SOOO great to have a campus close by!!)
Looking oh so cute in his little sweater vest!!
We had fun, and are excited to raise Jacob to be a Christ follower! He really liked the lights and the music at church, but enjoyed sucking on his fingers even more. :)
I had made shredded roast beef, and have had a few requests for the recipe. I feel kinda naughty, cuz the recipe was not hard at all, not even really a recipe.
CrockPot Shredded Beef
Roast
Packet of Au Jus mix
Beef broth
Onion seasoning/cut up onions
I crockpotted (is that a word even?) the roast for 10-12 hours, just plain. After shredding it, I then added the broth, au jus, and seasoning. Then had in crockpot for another 5-6 hours.
The length of time was from throwing it in before work on friday morning, and not gettign to it again until after Jacob went to bed (7ish), then after work on saturday, putting back in the crockpot until we got home from church.
Part of Jacob's life verse put on the cake, see Joshua 1:9 for full verse! :)

My New BFF
The only thing that helps me get dinner done lately...the crock pot!
I plan on posting recipes as I try them if they are good, not only for you to try, but also so i have a place to find it again, rather than organizing the scraps of paper i have everywhere. Seriously, this thing is awesome. Throw in a bunch of junk in the morning, and TA DA! dinner is done (sometimes overdone if Jacob wakes up a lot)
Mikes favorite recipe: Chicken & Dumplings
Ingredients:
16-20 oz package of chicken breasts
Can of Cream of Chicken
Can of Cream of Celery
2-3 cans of Chicken broth
2 tblsp butter
1 ½ c carrots
1 ½ c celery
1 can of Buttermilk biscuits
Instructions:
Add to crockpot: cream soups and 2 or 3 cans of broth. If you want really thick, use only 2 cans, if more soupy, do 3 cans. Mix.
Add: Butter, chicken (whole pieces), carrots, celery, and salt/pepper for taste
Cook on low 8 hours
Pull chicken out of crockpot after 8 hours and shred (falls apart really easily). Put back into crockpot. Take biscuits, rip into small pieces and add to crockpot. Cook for another hour or so on low until biscuits aren’t doughy.
Enjoy!

Ramblings
This blog is to follow the journey of a Type A personality who's world was turned upside down by the arrival of a mini Mike who rules our home. I am no longer on time for anything, I can barely get dinner made, and I came to work today with spit up on my shirt, which took until lunch time to notice.
But, I wouldn't change it for the world, besides maybe the sleep aspect. Sleep would be good. And if you know my aunt Della, you know where the name for the blog came from.
